Approximately two years ago I started having a very strong pain in the abdomen at night that was so unbearable that I could not find any relief either sitting, standing, or lying on my back. Only by lying down on my right side could I endure the pain.

I went to Cofe at two different times, a year apart, with two serious health issues. The first was Hepatitis-B, which I had acquired in a way that is still mysterious to me. For more than 20 years I have been dealing with a myriad health problems that seemed unrelated and could not be explained either by allopathic or alternative doctors. About 5 years ago I started to suffer from quite acute pains in my back, shoulder, arms and wrists - a typical medical diagnosis was repetitive strain injury caused my too much work at my computer. This was not a satisfactory explanation for me and, as I was becoming quite disabled (and disagreeable due to the chronic pain), I sought healing practitioners who might have a broader view.

A massage therapist in England, on hearing about my bout of infantile poliomyelitis in 1950, suggested that I research 'post-polio syndrome' (PPS). Infantile poliomyelitis had left me with a paralyzed right arm and shoulder, from which I made a 'complete recovery' thanks to the dedicated physiotherapy efforts of my mother.

The symptoms of PPS, including the long delayed resurgence of pain and disability in the affected parts, matched mine. In any case their response was that well-worn phrase of hopelessness, 'You will just have to learn to live with it'! And a prescription of pain killers was always offered.
