Cofe in the Hymalaya's

Cofe's personal journey into the healing arts

Cofe's journey on the path of spiritual cultivation and healing began in his hometown, Chicago in the summer solstice of 1995 when he experienced a two week period of life-transforming cosmic downloads and visions that revealed to him his true purpose on this planet.  Soon after this he began diving into the inner world of meditation with spiritual master, Sri Chinmoy and started studying qigong and Toltec shamanism with Jahlil Iah.  He also became an avid student of Indian philosophy and yoga studying the works of Sri Aurobindo and Swami Vivekananda, the Bhagavad Gita and the Upanishads.   His interest continued to grow in college at the New School for Social Research in New York as he compared Greek philosophy, Jungian psychology, shamanic experiences, and Zen teachings with the wisdom of ancient India and wrote many papers on the common threads between them all.

In 1997, Cofe traveled to India seeking direct experience of the oneness of all phenomenon and he spent one full year there in Varanasi, Pondicherry, and the Himalayas completing a fieldwork project on the practices and philosophies of the yogis he encountered there.  Along with plunging deep into the ancient Sanskrit yogic texts, Cofe lived with and learned from two adepts in kriya yoga, Dwarkanath Bhattacharya, a direct disciple of Lahiri Mahasaya and Umesh Das a Himalayan sadhu who had been practicing various Samadhi kriyas in remote caves for over ten years.  While living for 4 months in a small hermitage on the top of a hill adjacent to a waterfall over looking the Himalayan town of Vasisht, Cofe practiced kriya yoga, body purification (kaya kalpa), and merged deeply into the inner sound of the pulse of creation known as the nada and began developing his technique of didgeridoo playing that he would later introduce as vibrational healing.  Cofe also began to take up interest in the science of Ayurveda and spent 6 months in Varanasi apprenticing Vaidya Dr. Kumar Anand and experimenting on himself with Ayurvedic herbs and mineral preparations (rasayana).

Upon returning to the west, Cofe continued to pursue his studies in herbal medicine living completely in harmony with nature up in the hills of Jamaica for several months drinking water directly from natural springs, eating fruits and vegetables from the land and wild crafting herbs from the bush for preparing various medicines.  Back in the States, Cofe would frequent the various China towns in New York, Chicago, and San Francisco choosing out herbs from the Chinese medical books that he had acquired and experimenting with various decoctions on himself just as he had done with Ayurvedic and Jamaican herbs previously.  His pursuit of the deeper aspects of Tai chi and Qigong led him to discover the flow of qi along the meridians of his body and begin to work with various acupressure points.

Cofe realized that along with his experiential knowledge and self study he would need a concrete course of training that would complement and integrate all that he had learned which led him to enroll in Yo San University for Traditional Chinese Medicine in Los Angeles in the spring of 2000.  In exploring the deeper pathways of the energy meridian system and comparing them with the chakra and nadi system of yoga Cofe began to discover on his own how acupuncture could be the best method of directly accessing the soul level of consciousness through the subtle energy currents.  He met Dr. Mikio Sankey in 2001, who had taken this very same concept and perfected it into the science of Esoteric Acupuncture and became Dr. Sankey's apprentice assisting him in his seminars.

Cofe excelled at Yo San University achieving a GPA of 3.82.  He was one of only two students selected to do an observation internship at the Tao of Wellness clinic with Dr. Maoshing Ni gaining vast experience in tongue and pulse diagnosis and learning the needling technique of Dr. Ni.  Cofe was also chosen to be a tutor and teacher's assistant, won an academic scholarship for high achievement, became the busiest intern in the Yo San clinic booked for months ahead of time, and had two articles published in www.acupuncture.com.  He graduated with honors in December, 2004 and passed the California State Board exam in January 2005 with a high score of 149 out of 175.

In addition to his university training, Cofe continued attending various seminars and workshops with several master healers from various disciplines.  He was trained in Modern Medical Qigong and Myo-osteo therapy by Dr. Tatsuo Hirano, in Integrative Quantum Medicine levels I and II by Louise Mita, in the Balance Method of acupuncture by Dr. Richard Tan, in Master Tung's acupuncture by Dr. Young Wei Chieh, and facial diagnosis by Patrician Mccarthy.

Cofe with his Tibetan Masters

In February, 2005 Cofe journeyed once again to India and spent three months in Rishikesh living on the Ganges, practicing intensive yoga and meditation, studying the bamboo flute, and learning the science of Tantric healing empowering yantras, utilizing mantras for psychic clearing, and employing mudras for spiritual and physical healing.  He then traveled to Dharmasala and spent one month apprenticing Drs. Kalsang and Choiying Dolma, a Tibetan doctor couple who taught Cofe the art of Tibetan pulse diagnosis and herbal prescription.  Cofe was initiated by them into the lineage of Tibetan lama physicians that goes all the way back to the Medicine Buddha and has become a deep devotee of the Medicine Buddha seeing Him as the source of all healing done through him.

When Cofe returned from his second trip to India, he was selected by Dr. Matt Van Benschoten to be his apprentice and was trained in Acupoint Bio-photon Emissions Testing, the extremely precise system of diagnosis and herbal prescription created by Dr. Van Benschoten through 25 years of research.  Read more about Bio-photon Testing...

Cofe learned this technique directly under the supervision of Dr. Van Benschoten and attained incredible results with his patients during his internship. He continued to work with Dr. Van Benschoten intensively, 8 hours a day, 3 or 4 days a week, for one year before deciding to bring this unique healing system to Mexico.

In 2007 he opened the healing center, Luz Curativa, with his companion, Isha, and has been practicing in Tepoztlan and in San Miguel de Allende ever since. He also sees clients regularly at offices in Mexico City, Cancun, and San Francisco, California. Call or email to find when he will be in your area.
